Recent trends and applications for cell-based technologies beyond meat
Global population growth and changes in climate are said to be factors in the impetus for innovation and development of new forms of protein and plant cells for human consumption. For example, it has been said that emerging cell-based technologies could present an avenue for accelerating food production without the need for additional arable land, but many questions remain before such technology can be fully commercialised. The article explores the latest scientific developments regarding how cell-based technologies work, the current research on plant-cell technology and insights for future application. Of course, it is too early to predict success until consumer demand and market uptake are validated. But the science and technological processes are now well-advanced, as detailed in this article.
