New advances in Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) for food industry applications

Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is a widely used technology in material characterisation research. Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a branch of this technology which has gained increasing attention in food analysis. NIRS has several advantages compared to conventional wet chemistry or combustion methods. However, traditional IR technologies have now been combined with rapidly advancing machine learning technologies to gain renewed interest in the food industry. In this article, FoodLegal explores the scope of IR spectroscopy in the food industry in light of the latest technological advances.
