Assessing FSANZ’s proposed amendments to Chapters 3 and 4 of the Food Standards Code

In 2019, Food Standards Australia New Zealand announced that it was contemplating substantial changes to Australia’s food regulatory framework to strengthen food safety. In February 2020, FSANZ released detailed proposals for new measures with respect to the foodservice and horticultural sectors. This article addresses the practical implications of these proposals, and considers how they might interact with the divide between federal and State/Territory food laws in Australia.
