Why is FSANZ increasing maximum residue limits?

On 12 January 2017 Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued a call for submissions for Proposal M1015 to consider varying maximum residue limits with regard to particular chemicals that come into contact with food. While residue limits are updated relatively regularly, Proposal M1015 is noteworthy as it involves increasing limits to meet international standards. This article addresses the proposed changes to maximum residue limits, and explores why they are proposed to be increased, and some risks to be considered by growers and exporters.
