Comparing the nutrient profiling systems of the HSR and NPSC
The Nutrient Profiling Scoring Criterion (NPSC) and the Health Star Rating (HSR) algorithm are two separate but different important means of assessing the nutritional quality and ‘healthiness’ of foods sold in Australia and New Zealand. The HSR algorithm is based on the NPSC, but there are some significant differences in its application for scoring of foods. This article compares and contrasts the two systems.
