TGA draft list of permitted indications - Close for Comment as at 31.10.2017
In September 2016, the Federal Government announced that the law would be tightened so that the Therapeutic Goods Act would introduce a list of permitted claims (referred to as indications in the legislation) that could be used by businesses. The Therapeutic Goods Association with announced that the purpose of establishing the list would be: • to ensure that listed complementary medicines only make low level indications that were suitable for complementary medicines that do not undergo pre market assessment • to help prevent inadvertent non-compliance by providing transparency for what claims are suitable • to avoid consumers being misled by inappropriate claims on medicine labels. The first draft of the list was published on 5 July 2017, with a revised list published on 24 October 2017. The list closed for public comment on 31 October 2017.
