Labelling Obligations for Non Priority Foods

The Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016 (the Information Standard), divides foods into “Priority” and “Non-Priority” categories. Products which are considered a non-priority food are subject to lesser labelling requirements (as set out in Sections 24 and 25 of the Information Standard). Please note that you can voluntarily choose to apply the labelling requirements of a priority food to any non-priority food product (for example, indicating the proportion of Australian ingredients or bar chart). If you choose to do this, you must comply with the Information Standard requirements as if your product is a priority food – we recommend you refer to your document “Is my product imported?” The below information will help you determine your country of origin declaration for your non-priority product. If you are unsure if your product is considered non-priority, you can refer back to our document “Is my product a priority or non-priority food?”
