Application A1207 - Rebaudioside M as a Steviol Glycoside from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Approval Report)

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has assessed an application made by Amyris Inc. to permit the use of the steviol glycoside, rebaudioside M, which is produced by fermentation from a genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing steviol glycoside biosynthesis pathway genes, as a general purpose sweetening agent. On 21 October 2020 FSANZ sought submissions on a draft variation and published an associated report. FSANZ received four submissions. FSANZ approved the draft variation on 28 April 2021 The Food Ministers’ Meeting (formerly the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation) was notified of FSANZ’s decision on 12 May 2021.
