Application A1193 - Irradiation as a phytosanitary measure for all fresh fruit and vegetables (Approval Report)

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has assessed an application made by the Queensland Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (QLD DAF) to permit the use of irradiation on fresh fruit and vegetables as a phytosanitary measure (pest disinfestation), and has prepared a draft variation. On 30 October 2020, FSANZ sought submissions on the draft variation and published an associated report. FSANZ received 480 submissions plus another three after the closing date. FSANZ approved the draft variation on 28 April 2021. The Food Ministers’ Meeting (formerly the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation) was notified of FSANZ’s decision on 12 May 2021.
