How ‘Make America Healthy Again’ may impact food regulation for Australian exporters and importers

Since 2025, the United States Presidential Commission to Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) has begun implementing a policy vision which has influenced the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to restrict various chemicals of concern. MAHA, led Robert F. Kennedy. Jr, proposes a precautionary approach to restricting food additives and other chemicals which will have major downstream effects for the global food market. This article analyses the recent MAHA report and its objectives and compares the recent US FDA restrictions with Australian food regulation.
