New Zealand’s mandatory Country of Origin food labelling law

On 10 May 2021, New Zealand Government introduced Country of Origin labelling laws for some foods. This is the first time that origin labelling has been mandatory for foods in New Zealand. The new laws will take effect from 12 November 2021. This article explains the application of the new law, and provides some contrasts with Australia’s country of origin labelling scheme and also has implications for Trans-Tasman trade in food products.
