Food regulators signal actions on Health Star Rating, food framework and plant-based descriptors

On 15 November 2019 the Australia and New Zealand Ministerial Forum on Food Regulation (Food Forum) met to discuss current food regulatory issues and policies going forward. The issues discussed included the application of the Health Star Rating system, the modernisation of Australia’s food regulatory framework and the use of meat descriptors on plant-based products. This article considers the Food Forum’s stance on these issues and provides an analysis of the potential regulatory implications for Australia’s food sector.
