Grapefruit-drug interactions: The regulatory gap for the grapefruit juice health risks based on scientific findings

Grapefruit is a very popular fruit grown in Australia with a long history of consumption as well as pharmaceutical and therapeutic applications.. Yet scientific research has highlighted negative health effects of grapefruit juice if consumed by someone who is taking certain medications. This article explores the interactions between drugs and food, including grapefruit, explains the science behind these interactions and identifies scientific research showing potential health risks for consumers of some foods and drugs if consumed proximately to the other.
